Vocal Coaching for Singers, Recording Artists & Performers
Your voice is personal.
It carries emotion, identity, confidence and story.
Melbourne-based singer, producer and vocal coach Julia Messenger works with singers, recording artists and performers worldwide through professional online vocal coaching sessions.
Julia works with singers at different stages of their journey — from beginners and developing singers, including those discovering singing later in life, to recording artists and performers seeking greater vocal freedom, confidence, technique, range, tone and artistic expression, with a strong focus on long-term vocal health and sustainability.
Her work also supports singers experiencing vocal strain, vocal fatigue, tension, loss of range, vocal nodules and performance-related vocal issues, helping singers rebuild healthier vocal coordination, confidence and greater vocal freedom.
A graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne, Julia is also a professional singer, songwriter, producer and performer with extensive experience across live performance, recording, international touring and studio work. She also studied under Jacques Pottier, principal tenor of the Paris Opera.
Her approach to vocal coaching was shaped not only through formal training and years working within the music industry, but through rebuilding her own voice after experiencing significant vocal strain, swelling and vocal nodules from extensive live performance.
That experience deeply informs the way she works with singers today.
This Work Goes Beyond Traditional Vocal Coaching
“She has developed her own style to teach the technical aspects of singing.”
— Justin K.
“This incredible technique transformed both the way I sing AND speak.”
— Lupa J.
Through years of vocal recovery work, technical exploration and performance experience, Julia has developed a highly individual approach focused on restoring greater vocal ease, strength and long-term vocal health.
Her work combines specialised vocal retraining, artistic development and professional performance experience in a way that is rarely encountered within traditional vocal coaching.
Julia’s approach focuses on helping singers release unhealthy vocal habits, reconnect with the natural voice, and develop a stronger, more reliable technique.
Drawing from years of professional performance experience, vocal recovery work and advanced technical training, sessions may incorporate specialised vocal retraining techniques designed to support:
- vocal fatigue and strain
- tension and constriction
- loss of range or vocal power
- instability or inconsistency
- breath disconnection
- performance anxiety
- vocal recovery and resilience
- artistic expression and emotional connection
Rather than working through a rigid formula, Julia works intuitively and collaboratively with each singer to uncover a freer, more natural and expressive voice.

Support for Singers Experiencing Vocal Strain or Vocal Injury
Many singers experiencing ongoing vocal fatigue, tension, instability, swelling, loss of range or vocal strain can begin to feel disconnected from their voice and uncertain about how to move forward.
Drawing from her own experience rebuilding her voice after significant vocal strain and vocal nodules, Julia works with singers to help reduce harmful vocal habits, restore healthier vocal function, and rebuild greater ease, strength and confidence within the voice.
While vocal coaching is not a medical treatment, many singers find that improving breath connection, vocal technique and overall vocal habits can play an important role in supporting long-term vocal health and sustainability.
Where appropriate, Julia may also encourage singers experiencing ongoing vocal issues to work alongside qualified medical professionals such as ENTs.
“Months later, the swelling was almost completely gone and surgery was no longer needed.”
